Vector Trade Marketing Learnerships Underway…

Blog,Our Stories - February 23, 2021

In a world that is constantly changing, the Vector Trade Marketing Team (VTM) believe they need new skills, talents and capabilities to deliver on their customer’s requirements. One of the ways we seek to gain a competitive edge is by investing in Learnerships for our Merchandisers across the country.  Learnerships, by design, have a theoretical component and work-based experience component.  “We believe that this gives our Merchandisers an understanding of their roles, and valuable working experience while on the job”, says Annelie Govender – the HR Executive for the business.

Over the course of the Learnership, an experienced person within the business guides or coaches the employees through the workplace element as well as in providing a mentoring aspect to the training.

Over the last 5 years the VTM business has invested in more than 350 employees.  Feedback from previous Learnership candidates has been positive, with a huge focus on Teamwork and boosted morale. Learnerships not only provide an opportunity to identify and develop top Merchandising talent, but also boost employee confidence and increase job satisfaction and loyalty.  According to Annelie, “we have seen a lot of our Learnership candidates bringing optimism to our Sales function – adding Diversity, unusual perspectives, contemporary skills and new values”.

The National Certificate in Wholesale & Retail Merchandising Operations addresses the unique skills required by the VTM team – offering a holistic unpacking of the skills and competencies in their niche area of work.  Historically the programme has been run in-class with face-to-face lessons, however, due to COVID we have advanced the offering to include both online and in-class tutoring.  Groups of nominated Merchandisers will be attending the programme in KZN, PE, Cape Town and Gauteng over the next 12 months.

We wish all our Learnership candidates all the best as they embark on this exciting journey!
