Our Management trainees go through an aggressive fast track programme that forms an integral part of building a leadership pipeline, and prepares them to take on leadership roles. Farhad is a true example of this, being promoted from Trainee to Applications Manager in six years.

We touched base with him to hear how he came to work at Vector Logistics as an Applications Manager and how he contributes to our vision of Going Beyond.

1. Before we get to know the ‘work’ Farhad, tell us a bit more about the ‘24hr’ Farhad.

I am passionate about many things! Specifically, people, technology, and innovation.

2. You started at Vector Logistics. Tell us about your career journey that led you to become an Applications Manager at Vector Logistics?

I studied at the University of KZN where I qualified with a Post Graduate Degree in Supply Chain and Marketing. My first “real job” was getting accepted into the Management Trainee Programme – in the Vector Logistics division – in 2013. It changed my life! I then joined the IT Logistics Execution Applications team and I have been mentored by great leaders. They threw me in the deep end from day one! Every day was a new learning experience and I have been exposed to a world that I could not have experienced from a textbook. With hard work, dedication, and success in delivering key strategic projects, I got promoted to Junior Business Analyst in 2014. Over the next five years I was promoted to Senior Business Analyst and then Applications Manager.

3. What does a day in your life look like?

I start my day with a check-in session with my team for updates on the Projects we are working on to ensure that there is progress. I am then involved in project meetings, workshops, IT strategy sessions as well as checking in with our external service providers on service delivery.

4. What advice do you have for young graduates?

Be curious, be open to change, challenge the norm, and use every moment as an opportunity to learn from everyone around you – irrespective of their title.

5. What are you enjoying most about your current role?

I enjoy giving back. I do this by providing mentorship, leading teams, and developing smart solutions using best practice IT applications.

6. What is your proudest moment at Vector Logistics?

It’s difficult to choose one but being able to work with such remarkable people on a daily basis makes me proud to work for Vector Logistics.
