Meet Our Managing Executive: Bonga Bhengu

Meet Bonga Bhengu. He started as a Warehouse Manager – outbound in May 2013, and was appointed as a Managing Executive from 1st June 2024.

1. What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Patient, resilient and humility.

2. How would you describe your day job to a child?
It’s like the art of building LEGO and then sending it out to the right people.

3. What does a typical day look like for you?
Gym, school run, leading people, analysing numbers, reporting and servicing internal and external clients.

4. What makes you proud to be part of the Vector Logistics’ team?
There are always new dynamics/challenges daily. The positive feedback after delivering great service.

5. How would you describe a high-performance organisation?
A high-performance organisation values customers, employees and is consistent in delivering excellent results.

6. What does safety mean to you?
Ensure safe acts and safe conditions all the time. This covers both work, home, etc.

7. How do you keep yourself/your team motivated?
By looking for improvements daily. Taking on new challenges.

8. What do you like most about your job?
People, people, and people.

9. Do you have a mentor/coach?
Yes.

10. Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
My daughter – she has an impeccable work ethic for her age. A very motivating individual.

11. If you were the CEO for a day, what would you change or introduce?
Encourage innovation and quality of work/life.

12. What is your most memorable facepalm (embarrassing) moment?
When I did the s-curl hairstyle; yes, peer pressure …

13. When was the last time you laughed so hard?
Just the other day.

14. What is your guilty pleasure?
Sweets and chocolates.

15. What is one thing people do not know about you?
I enjoy reading history material.

16. If you could invite one famous person (dead or alive) to dinner, who would it be and why?
Chief Albert Luthuli. He can teach us how to lead and how to serve, as well as about work ethic and great values. Read his book Let My People Go for insights.
